The four things that determine your installation
Your electrical service size and available panel capacity. Your charger location relative to the panel. Whether the wire run passes through finished walls or ceilings. And whether the charger is mounted indoors or outdoors.
Everything else — brand of charger, cable length, smart features — is preference. These four items are what drive cost and schedule.
What happens on installation day
The installer confirms the charger location with you, shuts off power at the panel, installs the new breaker and dedicated circuit, runs conduit or cable to the charger location, mounts and terminates the charger, then tests it with your vehicle.
A local inspection typically follows within a few days, scheduled by the installer.
Getting ready before the estimate
Clear access to your electrical panel, decide roughly where you want the charger, and know your vehicle's onboard charger capacity. Then take two photos: the open panel, and the proposed charger location.
That short bit of preparation is the difference between a rough phone estimate and a number an installer can stand behind.
